Under the patronage of the President of Ashur University, Professor Dr. Kadhum Abboud Al-Majidi, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Nahida Hussein Al-Asadi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, the college held a scientific workshop on Tuesday, 5/14/2024, in the conference hall under the title (The Role of the Media in Combating the Drug Scourge)
It included three axes. In the first axis, Dr. Hussein Ali Abboud Al-Tai, a lecturer in the Mass Communication Department, spoke about the reasons for the spread of the drug phenomenon in Iraq, as it is a negative social phenomenon and widespread in society. Dr. Hussein also indicated that the reasons that led to the spread of the drug phenomenon, including the deteriorating security, social and economic conditions. Which was prevalent after 2003 and due to unemployment, poverty, and the phenomenon of financial and administrative corruption that invaded state institutions.
In the second axis, it was from Dr. Abdul Hussein Alwan Darwish, Rapporteur of the Media Department, in which he touched on the role of the media in dealing with the scourge of drugs by highlighting the role of the school and university in conveying sound educational ideas, publishing advertisements and posters, and organizing events and events to raise awareness of the danger of drug abuse and the necessity of cooperation with... Governmental and community agencies working to combat drugs.
As for the third axis, Dr. Saadi Younis Al-Sudani, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, spoke about the harms and problems of drugs and their social effects in terms of the phenomenon of the spread of drugs, which is important and dangerous to the structure of the human being, the family, and society. It leads the user to alienate society and family from it, which leads him to isolation and thus suicide. The user also commits Committing crimes of all kinds, leading to the spread of domestic and social violence, and leading to psychological, mental and physical diseases that lead to an increase in traffic accidents.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the attendees were praised, and the workshop included many discussions and questions worth answering by the lecturers.
