On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the Council of Ashur University held its regular session for the 2026–2027 academic year, chaired by the University President, Prof. Dr. Kadhim Abboud Al-Majidi, and attended by the Council members, including the esteemed college deans.
At the beginning of the session, the University President commended the exceptional efforts made by the colleges and the teaching and administrative staff during the recent period. He praised the outstanding results achieved by the university in the standardized assessment examinations, emphasizing that these results serve as a significant indicator of the improvement in academic performance and the quality of the educational process, while reflecting the high standard of institutional work adopted by the university in its academic journey.
The University President also welcomed the Council members and congratulated Dr. Saja Mohammed Abbas on assuming her new role as Dean of the College of Law, wishing her success in her duties and in contributing to the advancement of the college’s academic and administrative progress.
The Council then proceeded to discuss several items on its agenda, in light of the University Presidency’s general directives aimed at enhancing institutional performance, elevating the educational process, improving the university environment, and ensuring the sustainability of scholarly contributions and academic excellence. Key topics included:
* Logistical preparations: Monitoring the readiness of classrooms and scientific laboratories, and finalizing the provision of necessary technical and educational resources to ensure a comprehensive university environment for students and faculty members. * **Student Affairs:** Discussing mechanisms for student registration for the new academic year and providing the necessary facilities, alongside enhancing student, scientific, and cultural activities to help foster well-rounded university students.
* **Scientific Research:** Emphasizing support for scientific research and encouraging faculty members to increase publications in reputable international journals indexed in global databases—particularly Scopus and Clarivate—as well as supporting research and innovation projects.
The Council also deliberated on various other academic and administrative matters concerning university operations and the requirements of the upcoming phase, adopting the necessary recommendations and decisions.
At the conclusion of the session, the University President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Council members for their active attendance and serious engagement in discussing the agenda items.
