The President of Ashur University, Professor Dr. Kadhim Aboud Al-Majidi, received former Minister of Health and Iraqi academic Dr. Jaafar Allawi at his office for a scientific and academic visit that included the College of Medicine and Ashur Teaching Hospital. The visit was also attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Haifa Al-Hadithi, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Zainab Abdul-Khaliq, a number of faculty members, and several of Dr. Allawi's former colleagues.
During his visit, Dr. Jaafar Allawi was briefed on the state of medical education at Ashur University and the developments taking place at the College of Medicine, including the modernization of the educational environment and the advanced equipment of the scientific laboratories. He also toured Ashur Teaching Hospital, where he viewed the latest medical equipment and clinical facilities that support the educational and training process for medical students.
The meeting included an in-depth discussion of the latest developments regarding the College of Medicine's preparations for academic accreditation and the development programs implemented by the university to enhance the quality of medical education according to international standards. The possibility of establishing academic twinning programs with prestigious British universities was also explored, with the aim of strengthening scientific cooperation and the exchange of expertise.
For his part, Dr. Jaafar Alawi expressed his full readiness to adopt this project and support the university's efforts in this field, drawing on his academic and professional experience. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and works as a consultant in diabetes and endocrinology at King's College Hospital and its affiliated hospitals in London. He is also a university professor with extensive experience in medical education and international academic collaboration.
During the meeting, the President of Ashur University, Professor Dr. Kadhim Aboud Al-Majidi, emphasized the university's commitment to leveraging the expertise of distinguished Iraqi professionals abroad and developing mechanisms to facilitate their participation in supporting medical education. This includes hosting them as visiting professors at Ashur University and organizing specialized training courses and workshops for medical students and faculty members.
In this context, the university president directed the formation of a high-level committee of professors from the College of Medicine to develop the implementation framework and mechanisms for cooperation with Dr. Jaafar Alawi. This will ensure that these initiatives are transformed into sustainable scientific programs that contribute to the development of medical education and enhance Ashur University's academic standing both locally and internationally.
This visit comes within the framework of Ashur University’s strategy aimed at expanding its scientific partnerships with Iraqi and international expertise, and enhancing the medical education environment according to the best international academic standards, in order to serve students and improve the quality of education and scientific research.
