A word from the Head of the Civil Engineering Department

We are pleased to welcome you to the Department of Civil Engineering, which was established at the inception of Ashur University College and officially recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research under decree number (6492) dated September 18, 2017. It is one of the leading academic departments contributing to the preparation of qualified engineering professionals capable of serving the community and actively participating in the development and construction process. This journey culminated in the transformation of Ashur University College into Ashur University, by ministerial decree number (13677) dated June 5, 2023. This recognition acknowledges the significant efforts exerted by the university's leadership, headed by the President, Professor Dr. Kadhim Aboud Al-Majidi, along with its distinguished academic and administrative staff, in their pursuit of raising the scientific and academic standards and achieving quality and academic accreditation.
The department strives diligently to be among the leading departments in civil engineering education in Iraq. This is achieved by providing a state-of-the-art learning environment that combines rigorous academic study with practical field application. The department works to prepare engineers who possess scientific knowledge, practical skills, and the ability to keep pace with the latest technological advancements in various civil engineering disciplines. This is accomplished through continuously updated curricula and educational programs that align with laboratories' demands and global scientific developments. The department utilizes the latest educational methods and modern teaching technologies, provides laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment from international manufacturers, actively encourages scientific research and participation in conferences and seminars, and maintains partnerships with governmental and private sector institutions to provide field training opportunities.
The department adopts the Bologna Process for the first three years, following an eight-semester system, and the fourth year, following an annual system. This is based on a twinning agreement with the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustansiriya University, a system used in most prestigious international universities with high academic standards. After four years of study, students are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, preparing them to actively participate in reconstruction and sustainable development projects.
The department head and faculty continue their ongoing efforts to raise the students' academic level and promote academic and professional values, believing that building scientifically and ethically qualified individuals is the true foundation for societal progress and prosperity.
